Bio"I saw the dementors bringing him in, watched them through the bars in my cell door. He can't have been more than nineteen. They took him into a cell near mine. He was screaming for his mother by nightfall. He went quiet after a few days, though...they all went quiet in the end...except when they shrieked in their sleep..."
Bartemius 'Barty' Crouch Jr. is a young wizard who has recently joined the Death Eaters, the servants of Lord Voldemort. He is pale, with fair hair. He is nineteen years old. He has just been convicted of torture.
Barty joined the Death Eaters soon after leaving Hogwarts. A powerful wizard, passionately devoted to the Dark Lord's cause, he quickly rose in Voldemort's estimation. After the downfall of his master on October 31st, 1981, he was one of the few loyal Death Eaters who tried to find Voldemort and return him to power. Along with Bellatrix Lestrange, Rodolphus Lestrange, and Rabastan Lestrange, he used the Cruciatus Curse on the Aurors Frank and Alice Longbottom. They were caught; his father, Bartemius Crouch Sr., head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, presided over the trial. Although Barty, terrified at the prospect of a lifetime in the company of the Dementors in Azkaban, denied the charges, he received a life sentence.
